Quick Summary
Honda stopped building the Accord Coupe after the 2017 model year and the Civic Coupe after 2020, so the 2026 Prelude hybrid is the only new two-door Honda, and it starts above $40,000. A used Civic Coupe or Accord Coupe costs far less, comes in more trims and transmission choices, and still carries Honda’s reputation for reliability. New makes sense mainly for buyers who want the latest tech and a full factory warranty.
So if you want a Honda with two doors right now, there’s really only one new one you can go buy, which is kind of strange for Honda, and it means buying a used coupe is a lot more appealing than it was a few years ago, since the Civic Coupe and Accord Coupe are both gone and the new Prelude is basically it.
We get asked about this a fair amount at Car Time Supercenter, usually by somebody who had a Civic two-door in college, and we’re glad to go through both sides honestly with you.
What Happened To New Honda Coupes
The Accord Coupe went away after the 2017 model year, because when the redesigned 2018 Accord showed up it was a sedan only, and the Civic Coupe, the Si coupe too, lasted a little longer but was done after the 2020 model year.
For 2026 the Prelude came back as a hybrid two-door with a hatchback-style cargo area, and if you look at current pricing data it starts at more than $42,000, a whole different price range from the old coupes.
Why A Used Honda Coupe Often Makes More Sense
More Choice For Less Money
On the 2016 to 2020 Civic Coupe you could get the 2.0-liter four-cylinder or the 1.5-liter turbo, and the Si had its turbo engine hooked to a six-speed manual, and the 2013 to 2017 Accord Coupe had a V6 option and a calmer, bigger-car ride people like on I-10.
That’s a lot of different engines and trims to pick from, way more than one new model gives you, and a lot of times you’re paying a fraction of what the new one costs.
Both coupes also came in several trim levels, from basic versions to ones with leather and navigation, so compare the equipment on each car as well as the mileage.
Proven Reliability
These cars have years of real-world history and parts are easy to get in Tucson, and a used Civic or Accord coupe with a clean service record can keep going well into six-figure mileage, which is a big part of why they hold their value like they do.
With the sporty trims like the Si you do want to look a little closer, for clutch slip, any aftermarket engine tuning and a front bumper that’s been scraped up on parking curbs, because some owners drive them pretty hard.
What To Check Before Buying A Used Honda Coupe
Service History And CVT Care
Most 2016 to 2020 Civic Coupes with an automatic have a CVT, so we like seeing records that the fluid was changed on schedule and that the oil changes more or less kept up with the Maintenance Minder, and even a messy stack of receipts in the glovebox is worth more to us than a car that just looks clean.
Arizona Sun Wear
The sun here is hard on every car, but two-doors seem to show it first, on the long doors and that sloped back glass, so check the roof and trunk lid for faded clear coat, look at the dash for cracks and press on the window seals to see if they’ve shrunk or gotten hard, since those small repairs kind of add up.
Insurance And Everyday Fit
Insurance can run a little higher on a coupe, the Si especially, so we’d get a quote on the exact VIN before signing, and it’s also smart to actually sit in the back seat and put a stroller or golf bag in the trunk, because a two-door is a lot less forgiving than a sedan once life gets busy.
Take a longer test drive than you think you need, with some highway time and a few tight parking-lot turns. A coupe’s long doors and rear sight lines are easier to judge in person than in photos.
When Buying New Is The Better Fit
The Prelude does come with a full factory warranty, the newest safety tech and hybrid fuel economy, and if that’s what you want and the budget’s there, new is a perfectly fine choice, but for most people who just want a good-looking two-door that’s going to be reliable, pre-owned is usually the better value.
Whichever way you lean, set a budget first and include insurance and fuel, and compare the monthly cost of the Prelude with a used coupe before you decide.
Either way, a pre-purchase look at the car itself matters more than the badge, so ask to see the service records and the title before you sign anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, just one, since the Prelude came back for 2026 as a hybrid two-door after the Civic Coupe and Accord Coupe were discontinued.
We’d usually say a 2016 to 2020 Civic Coupe, mostly because it’s good on gas, you can find it with Honda Sensing safety tech, and it’s just an easy, forgiving car to drive.
They’re not as common as sedans, so it helps to check inventory pretty often and move quick when a clean one comes in.
Honda made Honda Sensing standard on every 2019 and 2020 Civic, the coupe included, while on earlier years it was available but not standard on every trim, so if you want adaptive cruise and lane-keeping help, those last two years are the ones to look for.
